NestBorn and Norsk Kylling join forces for optimal chick welfare
NestBorn, the most accessible on-farm hatching system for broiler day-old chicks, is proud and enthusiastic to announce the agreement with Norwegian broiler integration Norsk Kylling. The new & state-of-the art Hugaas Rugeri hatchery, opening its doors in the course of 2023, will include NestBorn as one of the early feeding solutions of this hatchery, which is striving to operate according to the highest & latest welfare standards. The collaboration between Norsk Kylling and NestBorn took its first steps early 2021, with a convincing comparative pilot trial at 4 broiler farms, with the HUBBARD 787 breed, demonstrating positive impact on both welfare and technical performance across the production chain, from hatchery to slaughter & processing plant.
In order to apply NestBorn at the Norsk Kylling broiler farms, where European Chicken Commitments standards are also fulfilled, the newest compact model of the NestBorn egg placing machine will be deployed. This 100% battery-driven machine, has been designed for 88-egg setter trays, demonstrating that NestBorn can work with a complete range of setter trays available on market. With every egg-placing movement, 2 trays can be inserted into the machine, allowing for a transfer of 176 pre-incubated eggs per movement, placing them smoothly on the litter-nest covering the floor at the farm. This allows for a placement of more than 35.000 eggs per hour in broiler houses. The on-farm hatching process is facilitated by utilization of the NestBorn monitoring equipment, allowing farmers to observe remotely and in real-time eggshell temperatures and climatic conditions during the 3-day hatching process.
Hilde Talseth, Director Sustainable Innovation and CEO Hugaas Rugeri : “We are very happy to include NestBorns on-farm hatching solution as a part of our new hatchery. We have worked in close collaboration with our partners to ensure that our hatchery will have leading solutions and technology for animal welfare. We are looking forward to starting our new hatchery with solutions that we believe will help us reach our goal.”
